Peak Alert Forecast
Monday, January 4, 2010 through Saturday, January 9, 2010 (at least)

Farmers' Electric Cooperative has issued an extended Peak Alert forecast, beginning Monday, January 4, at 5:30 p.m. that will run through at least Saturday, January 9.

“The extended weather forecasts have our daytime highs in the mid-teens, at best,” said Steve Shoot, Manager of Member Services, for FEC. “Add to that a majority of the overnight lows will be dropping below zero most nights, too.”

Shoot said the Peak Alerts will run twice a day, with the morning Peak Alerts to be called from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The evening Peak Alerts will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

“This is the first time in over 20 years that we have announced an extended Peak Alert schedule,” Shoot said. “Normally, we take it a day at a time, but in this case, abnormally cold weather has settled into our area and we are not expecting our regular winter temperatures to bounce back until sometime next week.” Shoot added the projected high of zero degrees on Friday was also a major factor in calling the extended Peak Alert.

“Our members can make a difference by controlling their usage during this period of extreme weather,”
said Shoot. “We need to lower the demand on our system to better control what our power bill will be from our power supplier over the next couple of years.”

Shoot asked that members alternate the use of any major electrical appliances during the peak alert time periods. “It’s like our slogan says, ‘Together, we have the power to make a difference’,” Shoot said.
