Spray Crews Will be Kept Busy This Spring, Summer
Northwestern part of FEC service territory will be the primary focus for 2011

Farmers' Electric crews and contractors will be spraying areas in the western and northwestern parts of the service territory. Spraying crews will be assigned areas in (see map) northeastern Caldwell County, southeastern Daviess County and northeastern Daviess County. The spray crews will be working near the towns of Breckenridge, Nettleton, Hamilton, New York and Catawba in Caldwell County. Spray crews will also be working around Jameson and Coffey. Crews will also be trimming trees and spraying brush throughout the FEC system, as needed. Brush control is one of the more important jobs in maintaining the system.

Tree trimming crews from Poor Boys Tree Service and Asplundh Tree Service will also be working throughout the area. FEC's Tree Replacement Program (TRP) remains in effect for 2011. Members who have a tree growing in FEC's power lines may qualify to have a new tree planted by a nursery if a potentially troublesome tree is removed. Contact FEC at 660- 646-4281 or 1-800-279-0496 and ask for Mark Walsh for more information.

The shaded areas in the map show the locations where spraying crews will be working this spring and summer. Brush and trees remain your cooperative's biggest problem in providing reliable service. Trees in power lines cause blinks and a tree that is felled by storms can take out power at more than one meter. That is why it is important for trees to be removed from the immediate vicinity of the power lines.

Work in 2011 Includes Replacing 5.5 Miles of Line, Spraying Brush

FEC crews and contractors will be kept busy this summer, replacing about six miles of power lines. Crews and contractors will also be spraying areas in the western and northwestern parts of the service territory. Contractors are currently finishing a job in Chariton County, beginning at the Indian Grove substation. Approximately three miles of three-phase line is being replaced. The project should be completed by the end of April, weather permitting.

The replacement of 2.5 miles of three-phase line is also being scheduled for later this summer beginning at the Avalon substation. Spraying crews will be assigned areas in northeastern Caldwell County, southeastern Daviess County and northeastern Daviess County.
