Updated March 2010 Rural Missouri

Energy Workshops Set for March and April

FEC’s Member Services Department has scheduled its energy efficiency workshop dates for March and April of 2010. The workshops will be held:

  • March 23: Knoxville Community Church
  • April 8: Hale Community Center

A drawing for a $250 home energy audit and other prizes will also be held.

The goal of the workshops is to provide members of FEC with information that will reduce their monthly kilowatt hour usage. “Many times this involves a combination of things,” said Steve Shoot, FEC Manager of Member Services. “However, at some point it does involve changing how people live their daily lives.”

FEC’s Member Services Department began the “Together We Save” workshops in Braymer. “Our goal is to not only provide our members with information that can reduce their monthly usage of electricity, but to also explain the changes they need to make regarding their lifestyle, as well,” said Steve Shoot, Manager of Member Services for FEC. The two-hour meetings cover a wide variety of topics. The workshops have been broken down into nine main areas. They include:

energy gougers
heating and cooling
insulation and caulking
phantom loads
efficiency opportunities
home energy audits
lighting and lifestyle changes

“The workshops will also give our members an opportunity to ask a variety of questions on energy efficiency topics,” said Shoot.

At the end of the meeting, there will be time for extended questions and answer session, plus a drawing for some energy efficiency prizes.

Shoot said the cooperative hoped to conduct the workshop about once a month, with the exception of the month of December, throughout the nine-county FEC service territory.

The February workshop was held February 16 in the Norborne Community Center. The Chillicothe energy efficiency workshop was held January 14 in the FEC office. The third in a series of energy efficiency workshops was held Monday, November 2, at the Lake Viking Church. The second workshop was held Thursday, October 8, at the Meadville High School.

Plans are to hold additional workshops in Mendon, Norborne, Pattonsburg, Brunwick and Polo. Dates and times will be announced in future editions of Watts Up. The workshops are free to FEC members.

The Member Services Department of Farmers’ Electric will be traveling to area communities throughout the next eight months providing free money-saving ideas as part of a series of “Together We Save” energy efficiency workshops.

“Even though we provide a lot of energy saving tips through the articles we publish in the Rural Missouri magazine, there is still a lot of information that we can pass along to our members that will save them money for years to come,” said Steve Shoot, Manager of Member Services for FEC.

The first Together We Save workshop will be held Thursday, September 3, at 6 p.m. at the Braymer High School. The next scheduled workshop is set for Thursday, October 8, at 6 p.m. at the Meadville High School.

The workshops are expected to take about 2 1/2 hours with plenty of time left for question and answer sessions.

Topics will include: Energy Gougers, Heating and Cooling, Insulation and Caulking, Phantom Loads, Efficiency Opportunities, Home Energy Audits, Lighting, and Lifestyle Changes.

“It’s a free program that will save you money now and into the future,” said Shoot.

Energy Efficiency Workshops Are Coming Your Way
August 2009 Rural Missouri

The Member Services Department at Farmers’ Electric has been working to put together a 2 1/2 hour Energy Efficiency workshop for FEC members. The workshops will be held throughout your cooperative’s nine-county service territory. Specific dates and times will be published in later editions of Watts Up as well as in local newspapers and radio stations. Most of the workshops will be held during evening hours to allow interested members to take part in the programs after they get off work.

Topics include energy gougers, heating and cooling, insulation and caulking, phantom loads, efficiency opportunities, home energy audits, lighting and lifestyle changes. A question and answer session will also be held at each workshop.

“We publish many articles in the Rural Missouri magazine on how our members can become more energy efficient,” said Steve Shoot, Manager of Member Services with FEC. “However, there is a lot more information that we can pass along at these workshops.”

Shoot said he hoped the first workshop would take place in September. “We plan to hold about one every four to six weeks,” Shoot said.
