General Manager Bids Farewell After 24 Years Thursday, June 1, 2006, Chillicothe Newspapers (C-T) After over 24 years at the helm of Farmers' Electric Cooperative, CEO Dan Bryan has officially retired and over 120 friends, family and members gathered at the cooperative for a retirement reception in his honor on Tuesday. Bryan's retirement officially began today (Thursday) and while looking forward to new challenges, he says he's proud of the cooperative's growth during his tenure there. Under his leadership, the cooperative formed the Area Youth Benefit Fund (AYBF) which is designed to help area families with the costs associated with medical expenses for their children. Bryan recalled that in the late 1980s, an FEC survey found that some members were in need of health insurance. And while the cooperative couldn't provide health insurance, some brainstorming by FEC employees gave birth to the idea of the benefit fund. “It's kind of funny because back then, we had a goal of someday being able to provide about $20,000 in donations to area families to help them with health care needs for their children. Now, I think we're nearing $350,000,” Bryan said, adding that the generosity of the community is to credit for much of its success. Under Bryan's leadership, FEC became a technologically current cooperative, complete with an automated meter reading system. Bryan noted that while some of the cooperative's members still enjoy reading their own meters, newer members are want the automated meter reading system because it's quicker and easier. “Utilities across the country are doing this,” he said. Bryan said that he's also proud of the cooperative's communication with it's members as well as it's overall service reliability. “We've made sure that we're quicker to respond, that there's fewer outages to respond to and if there is an outage, we get their quicker,” he explained.
