Stan Brickhouse Retires; Troy Hermanson Now Heads Operations Department
Brickhouse began his career in the electric cooperative program in October of 1969, working as a lineman for Kosciusko REMC in Warsaw, Indiana. In 1976 he transferred to Farmers Mutual Electric Cooperative in Genesceo, Illinois. A year later he moved to Alcester, South Dakota, where he worked for Lincoln-Union Electric Cooperative. In April of 1985, Brickhouse became Operations Manager for FEC. “So many things have changed in the way we do business since I started in the electric cooperative program,” reflected Brickhouse. “Computers and other types of electronic equipment make up the biggest differences in what we are doing now.” Brickhouse also cited the availability of “really reliable” underground wire as another major improvement in providing good service reliability to FEC’s members. “We also hire our apprentice lineman only after they have graduated from a lineman vocational school,” Brickhouse said. “Thismakes our training program much more efficient, because the new guys know more about the business after they have been through those schools.” Stan plans to spend some of his retirement catching up on a few hobbies, which include hiking and working on his cabin. He and his wife, Diana, will also be spending time spoiling four grandchildren. Troy Hermanson, 37, is a native of Lisbon, North Dakota, graduating from high school in 1989. He attended a lineman school in Mitchell, South Dakota. Hermanson worked for the Cameron Municipal Utilities as a lineman for four years and as its superintendent for seven additional years. He then became the superintendent at Chillicothe Municipal Utilities before joining FEC. He and his wife, Angie, have two sons, Tanner, 8, and Tucker, 5. His favorite thing to do is to spend time with his family. Hermanson also enjoys fishing for trout and hunting for pheasant and elk. When he gets a little time he also likes to work on the family home. |
