AYBF Fundraiser
Generates Over $36,000
CAPTION: Col. Mike Miller (center) auctions off one of several items up for bid during last night's live auction held as part of Farmers' Electric's Area Youth Benefit Fund dinner-auction at the Chillicothe Elks Lodge. Although the 18th annual Area Youth Benefit Fund dinner-auction and golf tournament sponsored by Farmers' Electric Cooperative is on track to fall shy of last year's record-setting fundraising total of over $40,000, coordinator Steve Shoot says he's pleased with this year's estimated tally of over $36,000. "It's not as good as last year, but we understand that the recession has finally hit here in full force," Shoot explained this (Monday) morning. He explained that the two-day fund-raiser did surpass the 2010 goal of $30,000. "So we're pleased to continue to raise the kind of money we've raised in the past," Shoot said. The fund-raiser's dinner-action was held last (Sunday) night at the Chillicothe Elks Lodge, and Shoot said 283 tickets were sold for the event, which included a catered dinner, silent auctions and a live auction led by Col. Mike Miller. About 240 people attended.
Shoot said the "basic" silent auction, which included items with a $1 minimum, raised $1,044. The "upper level" silent auction, with items that could be bid on with $10 to $100 minimum bids, brought in $4,420. The main auction featured a wide variety of items including two, week-long stays at Florida condos, and a Zack Grenke-signed baseball and jersey in a shadow box designed by Original Artworks by Kelly. The live auction raised $8,730. Carrie Almond won the pick of the auction and decided on a Waterford crystal vase. She then donated the item back to the main auction, which she then bought later in the evening. The fund-raising continued this (Monday) morning at the Green Hills Golf Course, though an unexpected rain shower delayed the morning golfers somewhat. Getting Ready for AYBF Dinner Auction

The two-day event, which raises funds for area families with sick children struggling with medical bills, starts Sunday at the Elks Lodge with a 5 p.m. reception, 6 p.m. dinner and a live auction to follow. The golf tournament will be held at the Green Hills Golf Course on Monday. FEC's

Annual Area Youth Benefit Fundraising Events August 8-9 The 18th annual fund raising events for Farmers' Electric's Area Youth Benefit Fund have been set for Sunday, August 8, and Monday, August 9, in Chillicothe. The popular dinner-auction will be held at the Chillicothe Elks Lodge. FEC established the AYBF in 1993. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance toward the payment of medical bills for children 18 years of age and under. The fund is designed to assist families with children who have been ill or injured in which the parents do not have enough money or health insurance to cover the medical costs. The AYBF, a 501 (C) 3 charity, primarily operates in the counties of Linn, Chariton, Livingston, Carroll, Ray, Caldwell, Daviess, DeKalb and Clinton. A family that resides in the counties listed above does not have to be a member of the cooperative to receive financial assistance. FEC members who reside in other counties are also eligible for assistance. A separate board of directors administers the Area Youth Benefit Fund. All applications for assistance are made to this board and the directors have been empowered to administer the fund as they so choose. At this writing, just over $470,000 has been donated to families in north Missouri. The August 9 dinner-auction features a number of silent auctions and games, plus a main auction under the call of Colonel Mike Miller. Approximately 300 people attend the dinner each year. A reception begins the evening at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30. The main auction usually begins around 7:45 p.m. The main auction will have a variety of items for sale, including diamond jewelry, limited edition art prints, Waterford crystal, furniture, sports memorabilia and much more. AYBF committee members are currently collecting donations and selling banquet tickets to the dinner-auction. If anyone would like to donate an item to the AYBF auction, please contact Gina Truesdell or Steve Shoot. Every donation to the auction helps FEC raise money for the children in this area. The golf tournament on Monday, August 9, is held at the 18-hole Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe. For the 12th consecutive year, the tournament is being co-sponsored by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Chillicothe. There are
