The 18th annual fund raising events for Farmers’ Electric’s Area Youth Benefit Fund have been set for August 8-9.The dinner-auction will be held Sunday, August 8, at the Chillicothe Elks Lodge. The golf tournament will be held the following day at the Green Hills Golf Course, located on the northern edge of Chillicothe. More...

In 1993, Farmers’ Electric Cooperative established the Area Youth Benefit Fund (AYBF) for the purpose of providing financial assistance toward the payment of medical bills for children 18 years of age and under. The fund is designed to assist families with children who have been ill or injured in which the parents do not have enough money or health insurance to cover the medical costs.

The fund primarily operates in the counties of Linn, Chariton, Livingston, Carroll, Ray, Caldwell, Daviess, DeKalb and Clinton. A family who receives electricity from Farmers’ Electric Cooperative, but resides in a county not listed above also qualifies for AYBF assistance. A family that resides in the counties listed above does not have to be a member of the cooperative to receive financial assistance. The AYBF is a 501 (c)3 charity.

A separate board of directors has been named to administer the AYBF. All applications for assistance will be made to them and the directors have been empowered to administer the fund as they so choose.

The AYBF has donated over $300,000 to families in north central Missouri. Applications for AYBF assistance may be made by contacting Jennie Tipton at 660-646-4281 or 1-800-279-0496. Applications may also be made through this web site by clicking on the link below! AYBF events for 2007 have been scheduled for August 19-20 (19th is the dinner; 20th the golf tournament).

The 16th annual fund raising events for Farmers’ Electric’s Area Youth Benefit Fund were held Sunday August 17 and Monday August 18. The popular dinner-auction was held for the first time this year at the new Jenkins Center, located in the Livingston County Fairgrounds on the north side of Chillicothe. WASHINGTON YOUTH TOUR

Essay Contest

For over 40 years Farmers’ Electric Cooperative has sponsored all-expense paid trips to our nation’s capital for three area high school juniors. Each year FEC provides trips to Washington, D.C., to the top three winners in its annual essay contest. In 2004, FEC added three additional all-expense paid trips to the Cooperative Youth Conference & Leadership Experience (C.Y.C.L.E.) in Jefferson City.

The essay contest is open to all high school juniors attending a high school that is located within the service area of Farmers’ Electric Cooperative. The contest is also open to a high school junior who resides in a home on FEC’s system and attends a high school outside the cooperative’s service territory where the essay contest is not offered at that high school. Children of cooperative employees and directors are not eligible to participate in the contest.

Junior class English instructors receive the essay contest information and applications in early January each year. Applications may also be picked up at the cooperative office in Chillicothe or by calling the office and we will mail the application directly to your home. The essay contest application is also available on this web site.

COOPERATIVE YOUTH CONFERENCE

The CYCLE program is a three day conference held in Jefferson City in late July. It brings in some of the brightest young leaders from across Missouri. The focus is to show students more about electric cooperatives, teach leadership skills and experience Missouri state government.

The program includes nationally know speakers and a day at the state Capitol. There is also time for some fun things like an outdoor barbeque and a hypnosis. The group is also divided up into smaller teams that compete in various events like the “build a cooperative” game.

FEC Connections Card Can Save You Money on Prescriptions
Rural Missouri April, 2008
In the March edition of the Rural Missouri magazine you received an FEC Co-op Connections Card, which is good for discounts from local and national merchants. An added member benefit of the Co-op Connections Card program is that of pharmacy discounts. The card provides immediate discounts at participating retail pharmacies. The card, however, cannot be used in conjunction with insurance. It can be used to purchase prescriptions not covered by your insurance at a discounted rate.

At this writing, the Co-op Connections Card is accepted at over 48,000 retail pharmacies nationwide, including CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Target and more. You can find participating pharmacy locations at www.locateproviders.com. The program also offers a mail order Rx, which provides the convenience of home delivery with no postage or dispensing fees added. This allows you to maximize your savings if you require long term medication, since most long term medicines are purchased in 90 day supplies.

If you look on the back of your FECCo-op Connections Card, you will see at the bottom of the card information pertaining specifically to provider or pharmacy questions. You can also find out the discounted price of the prescriptions before going to a pharmacy by visiting www.rxpricequotes.com.

OPERATION ROUNDUP... The Power of Pennies
A little of your spare change will help area children in need

Your electric cooperative is beginning a new program to provide financial assistance toward the payment of medical bills for children 18 years of age and under. Operation Round Up uses the “Power” of cooperative member participation to provide revenues that will be used to assist area families who have children that have been ill or injured in which the parents do not have enough money or health insurance to cover the medical costs.

As a member of Farmers’ Electric, you can now voluntarily choose to have your monthly energy bill “rounded up” to the next whole dollar. For example, if your energy bill for the month was $97.63, your bill would automatically be rounded up to $98. Your $0.37 contribution along with the contributions of other FEC members would be placed in Farmers’ Electric’s Area Youth Benefit Fund (AYBF). The AYBF was founded in 1993 with the purpose of providing financial assistance for children with medical bills in which there was little or no health insurance and the household income of the family made it extremely difficult for the medical bills to be paid.

To date, the AYBF has distributed about $400,000 to families within the nine-county service territory of the cooperative. Money is currently raised for this 501 (c)3 charity by means of a dinner-auction and a golf tournament. These fundraising events will continue. The Operation Round Up program is another means in which more money can be raised in order that more medical bills may be paid. A separate Board of Directors oversees the charity’s requests for assistance and provides guidance in other areas. By participating in the Operation Round Up program, the most money you will annually contribute is just $11.88. The average Operation Round Up participant contributes about $6 a year. Through your generous donation and the involvement of FEC members across north central Missouri, your cooperative’s charity can have a major impact on area families that are struggling to pay expensive medical bills for children.
